Doris Maier, Michael Reinartz and Leo Bauernberger have jointly developed seven trails for culinary enjoyment under the name of ‘Via Culinaria – Culinary Trails in the Salzburger Land’. I love walking these trails, not only because the Salzburger Land is my homeland – I was born in Bad Gastein – but because of the work I have done over the years in laying the foundations for these trails: local produce, seasonally fresh, if possible organically produced and refined to a high standard.
For me the most exciting feature of the Via Culinaria is their broad range. Apart from the 56 awarded restaurants and the 12 Michelin starred restaurants one also finds along the trails 21 alms and farms, 14 patisseries, 36 artisan food producers and 21 very original inns that serve good traditional cooking. There is a small private fishery as well as the impressive Hangar 7 restaurant. The total of 163 Via Culinaria enterprises demonstrates the strength of the culinary roots and traditions of the area which will captivate a great number of seekers of culinary enjoyment.
I wish you all excellent wandering on the Via Culinaria and please never get lost there.
With culinary greetings,
Eckart Witzigmann, patron of Via Culinaria
